The Green River Community Center occupies a small site on a once prominent boulevard in Green River, Utah, near the Amtrak stop. Designed to house the various services provided by the current community center, spaces are intentionally made flexible and functional. Since visibility is critical, the mass of the building is lifted up a story, crating a transparent relationship both within the center and with the public on the adjacent street and pocket park. The stone cladding is made from Utah redstone panels, evocative of the local landscape. Operable screens mediate the southern facade, part of a broad strategy of active and passive solar control. Similarly, a 20 foot cantilevered canopy faces the street to the west, controlling the harsh sun late in the day while creating a public 'porch.'
