Trading cities for cicadas, Rebecca moved to Arkansas and joined the Marlon Blackwell team in June 2021. A Florida native, Rebecca was a project architect at the Miami studio of MKDA, a design firm with additional design studios in New York and Washington DC. Earlier in her career, she worked at Stantec, an international AEC firm. She has worked on various design typologies and scales ranging from adaptive re-use, boutique hospitality, multi-family, branding/wayfinding, and high-end condo design.
In the midst of architectural practice, Rebecca has been an adjunct Professor at Florida International University and Miami-Dade College, where she instructed students in Architectural Design, Architectural History and Theory, and Integrated Comprehensive Design. She spent a year researching and teaching architecture in Genoa, Italy through FIU’s Masters of Art and Architecture program. While there, she toured and instructed students in Milan, Venice, Vicenza, Florence, Rome and Basel. Her research entitled, Le Mura di Genova: Permanence, Palimpsest and Allegories, included 99 hand-drawn section cuts through three fortification wall spines of Genoa. The project studied spaces of legends and embellished histories found along the wall that preserve the spirit of the city.
Rebecca has strong interest in the smaller scale and humanistic aspect of design, particularly how spaces and materials come together to create beautiful visual and physical experiences. She believes that is the key to telling the story and to capturing the essence of the place.
